Measurement and Metrology is one the most important areas related to Quality Control – as found on shop floors. The lab has fully developed set of equipments to make the students industry ready.
Metrology is the science of measurement. Metrology Lab in our department is equipped with various measuring instruments, gauges and measuring machines. It makes the students to understand the basic principle involved in measuring process that suits for the respective product and its importance in the quality control. The experiments are based on geometrical measurements, form measurements using various basic measuring instruments like all types of vernier, micrometer and dial gauges etc and using coordinate metrology (Profile Projector and CMM). The students are exposed to learn about the error involved in the measurements, calibration of measuring instruments. The Computerized Surface Roughness plays the important role in the research aspects of Lab.
METALLURGY AND MATERIAL SCIENCE LABORATORY
The Metallurgy and Material Science Laboratory provide important information about the structure and properties of metals and alloy samples. When metals are subjected to heat treatment operations, it is important to observe the Microstructure of a given metals and also observe how the Mechanical properties are going to be changed.
This Metallurgical Laboratory consists of various ferrous and non-ferrous specimens, specimen preparation machines, microscopes and Rock well hardness Tester to find out the hardness, Jominey end quench tester machine to find the hardenability and heat treatment using Muffle furnaces. In this lab the observation of microstructure of ferrous metals (Mild steels, low carbon steels, high – C steels, Cast Irons), non-ferrous specimens (Cu and Al) and also preparation and study of crystal models for simple cubic, body centred cubic, face centred cubic and hexagonal close packed structures.
